Message of the Center for International Scientific Studies and Collaboration, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, on the Martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution

June 30, 2026

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”
(Qur’an 2:156)

The heartbreaking and unjust martyrdom of the Wise Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei (may his noble soul rest in peace), constitutes an immense loss for the Muslim world and for Iran’s scientific and academic community. The distinguished jurist, courageous leader, and eminent scholar was not only the Leader of the Islamic Ummah but also the foremost advocate of the movement for scientific advancement and the expansion of scientific diplomacy in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He consistently emphasized that universities are the driving force behind national transformation and the foundation of the country’s strength. Today, Iran’s academic community mourns the loss of the steadfast champion of scientific self-reliance and the architect of the New Islamic Civilization.

The Center for International Scientific Studies and Collaboration of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology extends its deepest condolences to all professors, researchers, students, and colleagues engaged in international scientific cooperation. The Center also calls upon the country’s academic community to participate wholeheartedly in the farewell and funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader, renewing their commitment to his ideals and honoring his enduring legacy in the advancement of science and the Islamic Revolution.

According to the official schedule announced by the National Commemoration Headquarters, the farewell and funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the distinguished martyrs accompanying him will be held as follows:

Farewell Ceremonies: Saturday and Sunday, July 4–5, 2026 (19–20 Muharram), at Imam Khomeini Mosalla, Tehran.

Funeral Procession (Tehran): Monday, July 6, 2026 (21 Muharram).

Funeral Procession (Qom): Tuesday, July 7, 2026 (22 Muharram).

Funeral Procession and Burial (Mashhad): Thursday, July 9, 2026 (24 Muharram, the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sajjad (PBUH)), at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).

Accordingly, all Directors of International Scientific Cooperation Offices, as well as Presidents of universities and research institutes, are kindly requested to maintain the continuity of academic and research activities while making the necessary arrangements to facilitate the maximum possible participation of university communities, faculty members, and particularly international students in these national ceremonies.

It is hoped that the united and conscious participation of the academic community will once again demonstrate the inseparable bond between science, dignity, and faith—principles that the martyred Leader consistently upheld—and preserve this historic legacy for future generations.
